Marc & Chantal Design introduces An Orange Afternoon, where industry leaders share their insight on China’s design, branding, architecture and fashion as part of DESIGNHOP / BEIJING DESIGN WEEK.

Background:
As supporter of the BEIJING DESIGN WEEK, Marc & Chantal Design is organizing two afternoon talks, at the Crossover design store, in Sanlitun.
The event is part of DESIGNHOP, an outreach program happening across the whole city of Beijing. DESIGNHOP aims to engage the general public through casual encounters with design professionals. Within a warm and casual atmosphere, the talks will be as interactive as possible, with open discussions between the speakers, and the audience.
Theme: “An Orange Afternoon”
Orange symbolises warmth, joy and particularly in Asia, is the colour for spirituality. It is Marc & Chantal Design’s preferred colour, and is a representation of our belief that compelling design comes from inside - from emotions, feelings and stories.

“Designing an Experience” by Hirokatsu Asano x Marc Cansier x Michael Faulkner
On this Orange Afternoon, the conversation will start with sharing a behind-the-scenes look into the making of Swire Hotel's The Opposite House, Beijing. Architectural firm, Kengo Kuma and Associates along side creative agency, Marc & Chantal Design will share their insights on unifying architecture and branding for this urban hotel project. Adding another layer of collaboration, Cansier and Asano will also be joined by Michael Faulkner, Hotel Manager for East Beijing - to further discuss the values behind such creative vision and the process that goes into realising a unique experience.

“Tailoring Success” by Simon Collins
Is there a recipe for making a fashion brand go-global, and how is Parsons fostering their students to become leaders of such household brands? On this Orange Afternoon, Simon Collins, Dean of Fashion at Parsons, New York shares his insights on the school’s collaborations with designer brands, their line up of notable alumni such as Donna Karan, Jason Wu and Derek Lam, as well as Parsons’ unique approach to education.
