Marc & Chantal Design is a creative agency specialized in branding and brand experiences. Originally founded in 1993 by the trio of Marc Brulhart, Marc Cansier and Chantal Réchaussat, it is now fuelled and reshaped by the talent and energy of 35 people, located in Hong Kong and Beijing.
Buymedesign.com: How can a duo be made of 3 people? When two Marc(s) work with one Chantal, is ambiguity just around the corner…?
“Hi! I’m Marc from Marc & Chantal”.
“Errh, I met that Marc not long ago and you surely don’t look like him!”
“Well that’s because I’m the OTHER Marc…”
Marc Cansier explains: Confusion can be fun, but at one point we did had to come up with an easy way to label ourselves. So there’s a Marc B, for Marc Brulhart, and a Marc C for Marc Cansier. But there can be only one Chantal.
Let’s assume that a duo is as different to a trio as a square is to a triangle. A square is a square, maybe it can become a rectangle if one side is pushing harder than the other, but it’s still all square business. A triangle can be many different things: Equilateral, isosceles, scalene, oblique, acute, obtuse and even, yes, degenerated…
By nature a flexible shape, it can easily adapt, resist, bend without breaking, because not locked into a “collinear” relation. And there’s always one corner who can decide to pull away, changing the shape without necessarily causing stress to the others. “Parametric” design would say an architect.
After 18 years of triangular partnership and an infinity of shapes reinvented, we are still redefining this Golden Triangle, the overlapping lines of our personalities, aspirations, egos.
Those accepted boundaries define the space we call Marc & Chantal Design. A territory we now fiercely defend on behalf of the 35 individuals who step-in to work – and play – in our offices every day.
Whether in Hong Kong or Beijing, this colourful bunch is now actively contributing to our next metamorphosis. Moving the lines, exploring forgotten corners, pushing the envelope. The fact that some of them might even call it “home” makes it all worthwhile.
Recent project buy Marc & Chantal:
As art director, designer and content developer of Gehry’s first exhibition in China, “our goal was to highlight the architect’s unique creative process. Inspired by his hands-on approach, we applied bold yet simple materials to establish a workshop-like atmosphere”, says Marc & Chantal team.
