Chart your own course in the Year of the Sheep with our off-the-wall itineraries to our studio neighbourhoods! As an extension to the brand strategy work for LUXE City Guides, we collaborated with their editorial team to create two custom pocket guides to Hong Kong and Beijing.
This year, we looked back at the past two decades of change and decided to commemorate them on a crafted wooden ruler. We engraved our timeline on the beech wood ruler and marked the 20-year milestone with an updated logo to reflect our enthusiasm for a future full of changes and surprises.
For this creative collaboration with the Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival, we created an interactive light drawing installation in a cluster of inflatable clouds at the West Kowloon waterfront for concert goers to explore. The light drawing activity allowed the crowd to create mid-air drawings and capture their creativity in a photo, while the cloud structure framed a spectacular view of the Hong Kong skyline. With kids and adults bouncing merrily on the inflatable sofas and sharing their photos on social media, our fluffy landmark at the festival was loved by all!
As part of our ongoing partnership with the Clockenflap music festival, we designed and built colourful seating for weary festival goers out of recycled bus tires wrapped in elastic bands. The seating encouraged lounging and conversation while the crowd was waiting for the next act to go on stage. This DIY, Made in Hong Kong approach proved to be a huge success with the Clockenflap audience and will be used again in the upcoming festivals.
Lane Crawford, asked Marc & Chantal to customise a canvas bear as a charity initiative. These were to be transformed into one-of-a-kind collectibles and sold as gifts in their store over the festive season, with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Cancer Foundation of Hong Kong. We asked Lane Crawford for two bears instead of one and titled our pair “Double Happiness”, and dressed up the two bears in a bright orange “Marc & Chantal” bunny suit!
Marc & Chantal teamed up with the bee aficionados at HK Honey to create this handcrafted, locally made beeswax candle. And because bees rarely sting, and we can’t remember the last time a dragon spat fire, let’s pay homage to these friendly creatures, and ignite the year of the Dragon. Happy 2012 Kung Hei Fat Choy!
Our New Years gift for 2011 was a cardboard envelope-shaped box containing a leaflet and a set of 11 postcards made by the designers in our studio and 11 of our favourite writers, who each sent us a piece of art reminding us to sometimes grab a pen to write to cherished ones.
For a brand promotion event in Beijing, BMW asked Marc & Chantal to come up with an original pattern for their iconic Mini Cooper. We chose to play with our logo’s “little people”, scaling up and scattering their brightly coloured silhouettes over the surface of the car. The dressed-up Minis were driven around central Beijing streets in a fun, creative parade.
As part of DETOUR, a two week festival of creative happenings in Hong Kong, we created two distinct installations. The first one, titled “Follow the Orange Rabbit” was an homage to Lewis Carroll’s famed work “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. Visitors were encouraged to eat a candy then pass through a small door into a room covered in mirror sheets. There they were immersed into a fantasy bubble world and free to play and laugh at their distorted reflections. The second room, titled “Les Poèmes du Mandarin”, was a video installation illustrating the collaborative work of Marc & Chantal with contemporary calligrapher Fung Ming Chip for Hermès’ Compagnie des Arts de la Table.
